A Senate Bill being considered that would allow officials in Sunrise Beach to put a tax issue on a future ballot continues making its way through this year’s General Assembly.
Sponsored by the 6th District’s Republican Mike Bernskoetter, as written, voter approval of such an issue would be earmarked for public safety purposes which include equipment, salaries and benefits, and facilities for police, fire and emergency medical providers.
Any revenue from the public safety tax would be in addition to any and all other sales taxes going to the public safety cause in Sunrise Beach as a supplement and not to replace any amounts budgeted by the city.
Bernkoetter’s bill was heard earlier this week in the Local Government, Elections and Pensions Committee hearing…no action was reported from the hearing.
