Near Drowning Sends a Kansas Man to the Hospital

A Wathena, Kansas, man is seriously injured in a near drowning early Friday evening in Camden County.

The marine division of the highway patrol says it happened in Miller Hollow Cove at the 21-mile marker when 31-year-old Jared Hawkins entered shallow water head first to retrieve an object.

Hawkins was then pulled from the water by bystanders before being taken to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach.
