The number crunching is over and a final tax levy to cover the next year has been set in Miller County.
County Clerk Clinton Jenkins says, when the meeting ended on Wednesday, the tax levy was set at “zero” for general revenue and point-2-5-7-8 for road and bridge.
“One, it’s because our sales tax is so high because of the Hancock Amendment. It rolls back what we’re eligible for. We just care more about our citizens,” says Jenkins, “The county revenue, the general revenue part’s been at 0 for four or five years because our sales tax has been at so high. So we just have to calculate it and put those numbers in and it rolls back to 0. So that that’s good for taxpayers. But I mean, they’re still going to get hit with, you know, fire departments and school tax levies and the road and bridge, so.”
The Miller County Commission also handed out employee handbooks for all elected officials to review before adopting a final version of it.
