Several lake area fire districts, especially in Miller County, participated this past weekend in a type of training that we don’t get to see put into real-life motion very often but training that plays a critical role in the case of a tanker truck overturning.

The potential for massive destruction and fire, if one’s loaded with gasoline…..just a small spark could ignite it. That’s why it’s important to get it sealed up, so they can pump it out so they can get the vehicle removed from the scene.”

Eldon Fire Chief Randy Vernon talking about the different challenges presented by such an accident.

The four days of training are being made available through grant funding from the Missouri Emergency Response Commission and coordinated by the Miller County Local Emergency Planning Committee.

Round-1 of the training this past weekend took place at the Moreau fire house in Eldon with round-2 set for this weekend being hosted by the Tuscumbia district.
