A federal grand jury in Springfield has returned a two-count indictment against a U.S. Army staff sergeant at Fort Leonard Wood for murdering a two-year-old child.
The U.S. Attorney Western District of Missouri Office says the indictment was unsealed on Friday alleging, on November 6, 2019, that Kevin long physically assaulted the child identified in court documents as “Jane Doe” as part of a pattern and practice of assault against a child who suffered blunt force injuries.
Long is also charged with making a false statement claiming that he was unaware of Army regulations that restricted the operation of a daycare at the fort.
Long remains in federal custody pending a detention hearing on Thursday.
