First responders and emergency management officials from the local, state and federal levels got together Friday afternoon to participate in a table-top exercise with the drill focusing on a runaway boat that slammed into a gas pump at a crowded lake area restaurant.

“We just work out the senario…..like, if we (EMA) are going to do this, what are you going to do? (Other agencies) And what are you going to do? (Fire departments) And it just helps us to work out who’s going to responsible for what.”

Camden County EMA Director Samantha Henley also says the drill is just one of several that are conducted throughout the year to prepare for worst-case scenarios.

“We do railroad accidents….obviously all of the railroads are down towards Stoutland….also small plane crashes, boat accidents….things like that.”

According to Henley, there were some gaps identified in the drill that need to be addressed after a final report is released.

The drill was conducted at the Sunrise Beach Fire District’s headquarters.
