Efforts continue to save the Historic Brumley Swinging bridge.
At their most recent meeting, the Save the bridge group met with Representative Dr. Lisa Thomas, who shared the idea of a COVID-19 grant for reopening tourism landmarks.
According to the Eldon Advertiser, the bridge would qualify for the grant due to the disconnection the closure has caused to the area.
Thomas says rescue workers have a more difficult time getting to that area of the Lake of the Ozarks state park now that the connection has been severed, and timing could be delayed if guests were to be injured near or around the bridge.
Vandals have been hitting the bridge hard since the closure as well, which is reducing the number of tourists wishing to camp by the Auglaize Creek.
Thomas says she’s working to get the application for the grant completed in Jefferson City.
