A 58-year-old woman originally charged with second-degree murder avoids a jury trial this week in Morgan County and is out of custody after entering a guilty plea, instead, to an amended charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Tracia Lannette Caruso had been accused of shooting her boyfriend, 65-year-old Dennis Seybold, back in July of 2022.
Over the course of the proceedings, Caruso had claimed the shooting was in self-defense despite investigators reporting there were no physical signs of that being the case.
Caruso entered her plea on Monday before Circuit Judge Aaron Koeppen who handed down a 10-year suspended sentence with a term of five years to serve on probation.
