Bond Review Set For 3 Of The 5 Corrections Officers Facing Charges In Othel Moore’s Death

There’s been an update to the charges filed against the 5 former corrections officers connected to the death of an inmate in Jefferson City.

Three of the former officers appearing in court on Monday have now been arraigned and they’re set to have a bond review next Monday.

They include Justin Leggins, Jacob Case and Aaron Brown, who along with Gregory Varner are facing second degree assault and felony murder, for the death of Othel Moore Jr.

A fifth person, Bryanne Bradshaw is also facing charges of 2nd degree involuntary manslaughter and she has since bonded out.

According to the Cole County Prosecutor, Moore was pepper-sprayed twice, placed in a split hood, leg wrapped and restrained to a chair for 30 minutes during a drug sweep at his housing unit.

Witnesses say Moore was pleading that he could not breath and eventual died in the hospital of positional asphyxiation, making his death a homicide.
