More people in Missouri means more people need homes. And many Missourians already here face a lack of affordable housing in the state.
One affordable housing advocacy group believes that 72 percent of very low-income households in Missouri are already overpaying for their housing
Vee Sanchez of Empower Missouri believes there is a potential easy solution.
She believes part of the solution is to increase funding for the Missouri Housing Trust fund.
A 3 percent recording fee on all deed transfer documents in the state is currently required.
Sanchez believes if that were increased to 9 percent that would put enough money in the trust fund to fully address the problem of affordable housing and reduce homelessness in Missouri.
