Students in Osage Beach Elementary learned all this week about what to do in the case of the unthinkable happening in their hallways or classrooms.

Camden County Deputy Brian Gideon, a school resource officer, says lockdown drills, unfortunately, have become a standard precaution in the Camdenton School District.

I let the kids know, it can be a scary thing, but we have these lockdown drills strictly to prepare staff and students for any and all emergencies. You know, it’s to minimize potential loss of life in the event of an attack.”

Gideon also says, in the case of such an incident as hard as it may be, parents need to stay put until given an all clear to come for their kids.

I just ask the parents to trust their local law enforcement, trust their school administrators. It’s best for them to kind of sit back, wait for the call to come out and let us do our job.”

The Camdenton School District has had at least two “hold in place” orders over the past couple weeks while law enforcement and school officials looked into possible situations.
