Coming on the heels of the Missouri Supreme Court ruling that the Lake of the Ozarks Lodging Tax is unconstitutional, questions are now being raised about whether it means collections of the tax will actually cease.
“There’s a lot of questions going on about, you know, what happens next and when do we stop or who stops or what’s done with the money that’s collected” says Camden County Attorney Jeffrey Green, recently addressing the issue with the county commission.
He says the court ruling…at least for another day or so…is not necessarily a done deal, “There’s things that could still happen legally to potentially review that process. So trying to preempt and presume nothing’s going to happen is probably dangerous.”
In the meantime, Camden County will continue to collect on the lodging tax but hold back on distributing it until the Supreme’s Court’s ruling is free and clear of any challenges.
