If you like talking on the cellphone while driving, you may soon be looking over your shoulder.
A bill passed by the Missouri Legislature will make using a cell phone while driving illegal.
Senate Bill 398 contains language that makes it a secondary offense for anyone to use a cellphone while driving.
The bill has been sent to the Governor’s desk.
MODOT Area Engineer Danny Roeger says that, like seatbelts, it will be a secondary offense.
For example, if you’re cited in a car accident, you can receive a second citation for being distracted if you were using a cellphone.
Under the old law, once you were 21, it was not considered an infraction to use a cellphone while driving.
The new law will apply to drivers of all ages.
