The apparent first casualty of the spring time sogginess in the lake area is the Mount Horeb Bridge which, according to Camden County Presiding Commissioner Ike Skelton, is shut down until further notice.
“We believe the deck itself may be cracking, so being cautious…we have decided to close that down. Don’t want a trash truck or a school bus or something going over that and possibility caving that in.”
Skelton also says it’s now a waiting game for the road and bridge crew before anything can be done with the bridge.
“We’re really going to have to wait until the rain and the water recedes a little bit, to evaluate how bad the situation is. But, the biggest problem is because of the rain we’re not being able to get in there and fix it.”
Skelton believes, once the crew can get in and do something, the repairs should only take a couple of days and the bridge will be re-opened to traffic.
