Mid-County Fire District Participates In Ice Rescue Training Sessions

Personnel from the Mid-County Fire District took to the water last week to renew training for a situation that is not a matter of “if” but rather a matter of “when.”

Deputy Chief Mark Amsinger coordinated the ice rescue training and tells KRMS News that the training is not exclusive to incidents that happen only on the lake.

“We know that with Lake of the Ozarks and then there’s also several small interior lakes and farm ponds and stuff like that, it became important to make sure a personnel were trained to be able to deal with a situation that may occur.”

Amsinger also says that the training which also included personnel from the Osage Beach Fire District was successful.

“The company did really well. Taught them different techniques and trains things to look for. Some ways to rescue people both, you know, by throwing rope bags or reaching out or actually, actually physically go out and get them in the water.”

Public awareness about the dangers of waterways icing over is also considered a key to minimizing those types of rescues.

Up next, the Lake Ozark Fire district will be working on sonar training toward the end of March.
