The City of Camdenton now has an official code of conduct for elected officials to follow.
City Administrator Jeff Hooker says it’s been a concept since 2018 with the main opposition running along the lines that such a code would impede with first amendment rights.
“The main thing is being able to differentiate between private person and an elected official. So an elected official should have some type of decorum and should behave in a certain way to make sure that you’re not demeaning towards somebody. You don’t harass somebody, you don’t bully somebody, you don’t discriminate against somebody.”
The board of aldermen, this week, approved both the first and second readings with a 5-1 vote…Alderman Daniel Ousley casting the only “no vote.”
The new Code of Conduct for elected officials to follow in Camdenton took effect immediately.
