Drag Queens in full makeup and their advocates rallied in Jefferson City on Tuesday to protest against bills that would affect transgender kids.
They assembled to protest bills coming out of the Missouri legislature that would ban so called “gender affirming’ treatments for trans kids as well as restrict who could and could not play on boys and girls’ athletic teams.
Jordan Braxton, who leads the advocacy group, TransParent, says that such legislation is hurting trans kids.
Republican bill sponsors say that the legislation is necessary because boys have an unfair advantage.
Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft says that the science is clear. He says that males generally have stronger muscle mass. They’re generally faster. They’re generally stronger.
One bill would make it illegal to perform in drag in public where children could see. It would be treated as a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
But Braxton, who performs in drag as Dieta Pepsi, say that as a trans woman she will not be erased, and as a drag queen she will not be erased.
